Artists: Anton Momberg

Born in Pietersburg in 1951, Anton Momberg's mastery lies in his realist approach, expressed through materials such as bronze and polyester resin.

Renowned for his focus on the female form, Momberg employs marble dust and resin to infuse his creations with an ethereal essence. Beyond this, he has turned his skilled hands to various subjects, exemplified by his immaculate full-length sculptural tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, displayed at esteemed institutions like the South African National Gallery in Cape Town and the King George VI Gallery in Port Elizabeth. Notably, his evocative sculpture of Desmond Tutu stands proudly outside the East London City Hall.

Momberg's artistic journey began with a Teachers Diploma in Fine Art, mentored by Hillary Graham and Neil Rodger at the Port Elizabeth Technikon. Since 1981, he has enriched young minds as a part-time fine art lecturer at the same institution.

His works are housed in numerous public collections, including the SA National Gallery, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum in Port Elizabeth, the Durban Art Gallery, the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the University of Stellenbosch, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (formerly UPE), the University of South Africa, the William Humphreys Art Gallery in Kimberley, and within the esteemed Standard Bank corporate collection in Johannesburg.
